This client wanted a website for a start-up designer cake company. Her designs tended toward the Neo-Victorian, as well as more trendy novelty designs, so she wanted the site to reflect those qualities. I used a rotating slideshow on the homepage to immediately draw the eye to what the client does best–she designs beautiful and extravagant cakes––therefore they should be front and centre. I created a series of gallery slideshows to showcase a larger variety of her creations. The background throughout the site is a Victorian fantasy I designed with statuesque women in flowing dresses and floral patterns specific to the era.
My friends who run the Berkeley House B&B here in the southeast of England had an older website that they had grown tired of. It was a well-designed site and very functional but had grown long in the tooth and needed updating. I kept the little drawing that co-owner Roy Patten had done (upper right-hand corner) and grew the new site around that, using art deco designs and framework to reflect the charming Georgian building and inner decor. I added a Lewes page since the little town where the B&B is located is so noteworthy in itself, nearby to Glyndebourne Opera House and therefore attracting tourists from all over Europe and America. There is a Find Us page with a Google map as well as a Bookings page.
The Performers Club has become a very successful venture for 6 to 14 year old kids wanting to develop their musical and dramatic skills. As a first website the directors wanted a site that reflected the brand that they were already building through their marketing efforts. I put the logo top and centre and used the shades of green and blue that they had chosen throughout the site to keep a unified approach. Photos of the kids in costumed action are featured on the homepage and many more in an elegant Gallery section. There is also a Forms page for taking reservations and a Contact tab with a live Google map below. They want their event dates to be easily seen and updatable so the green box on the homepage is spotlighted.
